What does a personal trainer cost in Belgium?

Between 40 and 150 euros per session. That is a wide gap for the same hour, so here is exactly what you pay for and how to judge whether it is worth that price.

The short answer

A personal trainer in Belgium usually charges 40 to 80 euros for a one hour session. An experienced coach in Brussels, Antwerp or Ghent sits between 90 and 150 euros. Train as a pair or in a small group and you drop to 20 to 60 euros per person. A monthly package of four to eight sessions costs 200 to 600 euros per month.

Online coaching works differently and charges per week instead of per session. There the range runs from 40 to 60 euros per week.

Why the gap is so wide

Three things set the price. Experience first: someone who has watched bodies move for ten years reads a squat faster than someone six months in. Location second, because an hour in the centre of Ghent costs more than an hour in Maldegem. Format third: a session shared with three other people logically costs less per head.

What you rarely find inside that price is what happens between the sessions. And that is exactly where it matters.

The question you are really asking

Behind “what does a personal trainer cost” sits a second question that weighs more: what are you buying per euro?

Do the maths. One session a week is one hour of guidance. The week holds 168. The other 167 you fill in yourself. That is where you eat, sleep, absorb stress and either do or do not go back to the gym. Paying 60 euros a week for that single hour means paying for 0.6 per cent of your week.

That hour has value. Your technique improves, you lift heavier, you have an appointment in your calendar that is hard to dodge. It just rarely explains why someone is still at the same weight three months later.

What to check before you pay

What happens in the 167 hours you do not see them?

Do you get a plan for your nutrition, your sleep and your recovery? Or does the guidance stop at the gym door?

Is anything being measured?

Without a baseline and without weekly follow-up, nobody knows after three months whether it worked.

What happens in a bad week?

A coach who is only there for the sessions never hears that you slept badly four nights running.

How long does the commitment run?

A one year contract with a coach you do not know yet is a risk you do not have to take.

De Bouwmethode

What I look at

You hire a personal trainer for the hours in the gym. I look at the four things that together decide what those hours deliver: your training, your nutrition, your lifestyle and your sleep, in one system and fully tailored.

That is a deliberate choice. Your progress is largely decided outside the gym. Sleep four short nights and your strength drops while your hunger climbs. That week you train against a body recovering from something else. Eat structurally too little protein and every set you do lands only halfway. Anyone who only corrects your technique never sees these things.

So I measure all four. Every week you get an evaluation of what you actually did: your sessions, your nutrition, your sleep and the habits that carry your week. Each one produces a single adjustment, so you know why something changes.

I am a historian by training, so I go to the source before I claim anything. My approach is backed by +120 scientific studies. And I lost more than 25 kilos myself, so I know what it feels like to start from zero.

What I charge myself

I put my prices on my site, because you should be able to make that comparison without having to sit through a call first.

Those 53 euros a week are more than a session with a starting trainer and less than an hour with an experienced coach in the city. The difference sits in what hangs underneath: your training, your nutrition, your lifestyle and your sleep in one system, with a weekly evaluation of what you actually did.

All the details per programme are on my pricing page.

The personal training at 80 euros per session sits at the top of the market. That is fair, because I only give it alongside a running programme, where I already know your numbers, your plan and your week.

One note: the content of the programme itself (the academy, the worksheets and the daily emails) is currently in Dutch. The personal coaching with me runs in English.

What you have afterwardsAfter three months of coaching
  • A training plan that fits your week and that you can run on your own
  • Measurable progress in strength, with numbers you can look back on
  • A way of eating you sustain in a week where everything goes wrong
  • An evening routine that carries your sleep without a tracker or tricks
  • The understanding of why something works, so you can adjust it yourself when I am no longer there

Frequently asked questions

What does a personal trainer cost per hour?
In Belgium usually 40 to 80 euros for an hour one on one. In the bigger cities that runs up to 150 euros with a very experienced coach. Training as a pair or in a small group brings you to 20 to 60 euros per person.
How many sessions per week do you need?
For strength and muscle, two to three training sessions a week are the minimum to progress. That rarely means two to three sessions with a coach: most people do one guided session and the rest on their own, following a plan they are given.
Is a personal trainer worth it?
If your technique is unsafe, if you have repeated the same thing for months without progress or if you simply do not get to the gym without an appointment, that hour pays for itself. If you mostly want your nutrition, your sleep and your structure in order, the same budget buys more result through coaching that covers the whole week.
What is the price difference between online coaching and a personal trainer?
A personal trainer charges per session, online coaching per week. Four sessions a month at 60 euros comes to 240 euros. Four weeks of online coaching at 53 euros comes to 212 euros. The amounts sit close together, the coverage differs: one pays for four hours, the other for four weeks.
Can you negotiate the price of a personal trainer?
On the hourly rate, rarely. On the format, yes: training as a pair halves your cost. A package of several sessions also works out cheaper per session with most coaches than a single appointment.
What is the cheapest way to start?
A free healthcheck costs you twenty questions and gives you a tailored report. If you then want to go on by yourself, Het Fundament is 27 euros one off.
